Apply to be an Embroidery artisan for One Dress

Professional embroiderers Please follow these steps to apply

Create An Embroidery

  1. Choose an image of a plant or flower from the ecosystems

  2. Find a piece of spare lightweight fabric in natural fibre (please do not use silk or wool) and find embroidery threads - ideally reclaimed or leftovers.

  3. Mark a square or rectangle 1cm bigger than your embroidery, you can use this as a guide.

  4. Embroider you design to be approx 9cm squared (eg 3cm x 3cm or 2cm x 4cm). The embroidery should take approximately 20-30minutes for a professional. Less experienced embroiders may find it takes longer. We want to be sure we are paying everyone a living wage, within the boundaries of the project, we ask all embroiderers to be accountable for their time keeping.

  5. Make sure the embroidery is well finished. Try to avoid sharp points or places around the edge that will be hard to tuck under - the embroidery will become an appliqué and we don’t want to see any of the base fabric.

  6. Cut out the embroidery at least 1cm around the edge.
