We realise the meaning of "Ethical" is different for everyone. We maintain very high ethical standards for human and animal rights, sustainability, environment and trade. The aim of this document is to explain what we mean by ethical. This is an honest account of how we work, our aim is to be as ethical, sustainable, eco and wonderful as possible, this is how;

Fair Trade
The following standards are met for all production
  • + Gender equality.
  • + Responsible and sustainable production methods.
  • + Ensure all producers, suppliers and workers are paid a fair wage.
  • + Environmental practices are good and sustainable.
  • + No forced or involuntary labour.
  • + Freedom of association and collective bargaining.
  • + Adherence to UN Convention on the rights of the child.
  • + Clear and transparent working relationships and buying procedures.
  • + Environment for working is safe and regulated.

Tammam Guarantees
  • + Advance payments are made to suppliers when needed.
  • + Relationships with suppliers are built and sustained.
  • + Training and financial support to partners and their communities.

Environmental policy
  • + Where ever possible natural dyes are used.
  • + Chemical dyeing is achieved using heavy metal free and AZO-free (less toxic) colouring methods and low-impact     fibre- reactive dyes (using less water than conventional processes) along with biodegradable chemicals .
  • + Wild and low maintenance crops are used to produce fibres.
  • + Organic and Fair trade certified cotton is used whenever and wherever it can be sourced.
  • + Hand looms are used by most of Tammam's weavers using man power over fuel power.
  • + Finishings are Oeko Tex standard certified, recycled or vintage.
  • + Scraps and waste are recycled.
  • + Carbon emissions are offset, we plant trees!

Animal rights
Tammam products are 100% vegetarian. Few animal products are used, but when they are, we ensure that the animal has not been held captive, has not died or been mistreated in the process and will not be killed when it's use for fibre is over. We will not use mass produced animal fibres.

We use wild peace silk where the cocoons are collected from the wild after the moth has emerged.

We use wool alternatives eghemp and banana blend yarn / bamboo / banana fibre.

Certifications
Standard, global certifications, such as WFTO / FLO / GOTS help us and our customers ensure we are providing garments made to the highest ethical standards. Copies of certificates are available on request. We will however work with smaller uncertified companies and individuals after visiting them and ensuring they work in a way we are happy with.
